Installing a heat pump in an existing building

Heat pumps are already the norm in new builds in Luxembourg, so what about existing homes?

Are you considering installing a heat pump in your home to replace your old boiler and save money on your heating costs? Here is some information you should pay attention to when installing a heat pump in an existing home.

What are the requirements for installing a heat pump in an existing building?

A heat pump uses electricity to raise the temperature from outside (air to water heat pump) or from the ground (geothermal heat pump) to the high temperature needed in the house. The lower this temperature, the more efficient and better. Underfloor heating (i.e. low-temperature system) is optimal, but normal radiators also work. It is important to note that the maximum flow temperature is 55 °C.

Well insulated house = better efficiency of your heat pump

A first measure to consider is also to reduce the energy consumption of your home. Good insulation contributes to the efficient operation of the heat pump. You can reduce the energy consumption of your home by insulating the building components (roof, walls, floors, etc.) and by using energy-efficient windows.
